Highs and Lows

Highs of the week:

Yes, those are 3 future tomatoes. Hooray- my thumb is starting to turn green! :)

It has been 1 year since we got our sweet Georgia baby! I am so glad we have her.
She has brought happiness, energy, and lots of pee stains into our life.
Note to you:
Whenever you are bored on a Sunday afternoon, never go look at puppies!
Especially when you have adequate funds in the bank!

Another high:
Listening to 90's music. Chad made a playlist of all our fav's from the 90's. It totally takes me back to 5th grade when I thought I was the coolest kid on the block because I was on the jump rope team. "Hello, I am Whitney White and I am on the Jumping Roadrunners! Oh yeah, you wanna be my friend!"

My parents told me about this show and I love it! Instant watch on Netflix- oh yeah!

Lows of the week:

Disappointing Cookies :( Nothing worse!
These are Nutella cookies. I am a 100% committed Nutella lover but these were not that good- just ok. And the truth is an average cookie is not a good cookie. I even tried putting Sunbutter on them because I wanted them to be good, but nope...average. :(

Hello, my name is Whitney and I am addicted to Pinterest. Ah! Pinterest seriously takes up too much of my time. It's so fun but I definitely need to limit my time on it. Chad's favorite thing is making Pinterest puns which is annoying because I can't ever think of any good ones. Which he loves to then inform me that I'm pintellectual delayed. That boy!

That was my week! Hope you had a week full of more highs than lows!

A Hopeful Green Thumb

While my mom was here she bought me lots of plants. So far...none of them have died.
That's success in my book.
Everyone (the guy at Home Depo and my uncle) says that everything grows in Galveston- I hope they are right. I certainly know that every bug grows here...the cockroaches are slowly coming back- beware.

I am now the proud owner of:
basil, cilantro, onions, a tomato plant, and a hopeful strawberry plant (sorry no picture- it hangs on the front porch).
I am going to try to make some homemade salsa once the tomatoes come in.

Grow, baby, grow!

My happy little garden!

It has been nice going outside every day to check on my plants. I grab my sunglasses and with Georgia we inspect them- soil content, water quantity, and sun intake. :)
I have forgotten how much I enjoy the outdoors, especially laying in my hammock.
It is so peaceful as the sounds of the world drift to me, with Georgia sniffing every blade of grass in the background. I find 30 minutes outside energizes me.
It has become quite a nice routine once I get home: check my plants, lay in my hammock, and then go inside to conquer dinner.

So thanks mom for the plants and may I be blessed with a green thumb! :)

One Happy Heart and Full Belly

Yeah- My parents came for the week!
We had so much fun and I am so happy they came.
All I can say is that it went WAY too fast.

Aren't they so cute?!
My mom couldn't believe the humidity and hated doing her hair here. haha I thought the weather was wonderful!

I tried to take pictures of all the wonderful things we ate. I always ended up forgetting to take a picture of the food at first so in all the pics I have usually taken a bite already- sorry. Chad and I both have gained a couple of pounds from eating out every day. And I loved it :)
Shrimp 'in Stuff- so yummy. Sweet potatoe fries and shrimp po' boy!

Spring Creek BBQ- nothing like fried okra, corn on the cob, and coleslaw.

Happy Buddha- Chinese. Sweet and sour chicken- very good. Chad and I had drove by this place but was scared off by the appearance of the building. Then it showed up in Texas monthly as a place to eat in Galveston. So glad we went!

The week was wonderful. I still had to work so my parents got to meet my booger bear. We went on the ferry, library story time, and the beach with them. He didn't know what to think of my dad. It was fun for my parents to meet him since I talk about him all the time.

My mom and I bought lots of plants. I will post about them later. Let's just hope I have a green thumb.
Chad and Dad cut our trees in the backyard, mowed the lawn, and fixed Chad's car. Also, they found the cords to hook our computer up to our very old TV. So now we can watch netflix, hockey games, whatever we find on our computer...on our TV. It's awesome.

We laughed and talked! Mom bought us ice cream (We don't buy it because of our tight budget), fresh fruits, veggies, and chocolate. YUM!
Let's just say we were spoiled! I loved having them and was sad to see them go.
But they left one very happy heart and a very full belly!

Another bonus of the week- I talked Chad into setting up our hammock in the backyard. Nothing like a good John Grisham book and a hammock!

Happy Saturday!

Trying to beat Obama...

Since it's Chad's spring break, we had decided to go camping this past weekend. I had packed the car full of sleeping bags, blankets, and our tent...then all of south Texas decided to open up and pour rain. :( I was so disappointed and just had a urge to get off this dang island. So at 11:30 a.m. I texted Chad, "I know this is a crazy idea but what if we drove 7 hrs to Wichita Falls for the weekend." After some convincing, Chad texted back, "Ok but we have to hurry to beat Obama." At 11:50 we were in the car driving. Obama had decided to come to Houston and I-45 was going to get shut down for a while. So we had to hurry and beat him!!! It was very funny once we got to Wichita Falls what we did and didn't pack in the rush. For example, we forgot my comb, Chad's underwear, and Georgia food bowl. But we had a wonderful time.

(Famous Statue in Wichita Falls...when we are all bored Susan always suggest, "Let's go look at the statue!")

There is just something wonderful about being with family and getting spoiled, no matter how old you are. Yes, I did have 2 Braum's milkshakes and Yes, we ate sushi for Sunday lunch- it was awesome. After being weighed down with stress and worry about the future, family was the answer Chad and I needed. I was even happy when we arrived back on our little island. And what makes it even better is my parents will be arriving in 8 hours to spend the week with us. Hooray! Chad and I are extremely blessed by the amazing families we have.
I am very thankful for them all!

May you have wonderful week!

Chad's Rotations

Chad's rotation schedule is in!
(There is a possibility these could change.)
Rotations start in July.

Location: Houston, TX

September- Cardiovascular Surgery
Location: Houston, TX

October- OBG
Location: Dickinson/League City, TX

November- Pediatrics
Location: League City, TX

December- Test/Christmas Break

January- Primary Care
Location: Texas City, TX

February- Primary Care

March- Primary Care

April- Medicine (VA Hospital)

May- Medicine (Cardiovascular Specialist)

June- Medicine (Pulmonary)

We are a little surprised. We were hoping for more in/near Galveston. Chad won't be able to commute when he is in Houston, Lufkin, and obviously Dallas. So during those rotations, we will only be able to see each other on the weekends. (Dallas- I don't know how often I will be able to see him, if at all.) Please pray for us during this period. We know it is going to be very challenging and right now I can't imagine being without Chad for those months.
Right now, all I can say is thank goodness for girl scout cookies...
I think I might just eat the whole box!

Favorite things

Favorite thing this week!
Coming home late to Chad cooking enchiladas from the Pioneer Woman Cookbook!
I love my hubby!
Next favorite thing...Georgia getting in the shower for her bath without us having to chase her!
Don't you love our green shower?! And guess what...we have a matching green toilet! :)
We are going camping next weekend in celebration of Chad's spring break. I am so excited!
I made granola bars for us to snack on. These are great and you can basically add anything to suit your taste buds.
Granola Bars:
1/2 C karo (white or dark)
1/2 C brown sugar
-Bring to boil and add:
1/2 C peanut butter (I use sun butter or marsh mellow creme)
1/2 tsp vanilla
-Pour over:
2 1/2 C rice krispies
2 C instant oats
1/2 raisins (optional)
-Stir in:
1 C milk chocolate chips (Of course you know I add more)
Mash into a 9X13 pan and enjoy!
Next favorite thing: getting ready for camping :)
This will be a new experience for Chad and I. Usually, we go to New Mexico and just pick a random spot on the side of a mountain. Well, New Mexico is just a tad too far so we are going to Sam Houston National park. We will also have our 40 lb dog with us this time and our tent is VERY small. So that should be fun!
Then when we get back my parents will be here! Yeah! We are going to have so much fun- although I think I lost some of my sense of smell bleaching the house for when they come. My mom would probably say that's how I know when it's clean- when my eyes start burning and nose hairs are singed from the bleach. :)
So the house is clean, our camping gear is packed!
Can't wait for the fun to start! Hurry up Friday!
